Among the city's newest neighborhoods, the West Loop has only recently began to be developed. Much of the area has been a warehouse district, full of factories and businesses. The Greektown neighborhood which was founded in the late 1800's, brought about some commercial sites to the area. The neighborhood was also changed when the University of Illinois moved it's Chicago campus from Navy Pier to the West Loop.
Over the last two decades major change has undergone to this area, and several old warehouses have either been converted or removed completely. Today the neighborhood is trendy and cozy with cafes and popular nightspots. Home to Randolph street's restaurant row, and many new popular nightspots that have come up on Lake street. The West Loop is also home to the world famous Harpo Studio's where Oprah Winfrey show is taped. Today the area is known as the Loft District.
